What Was The Problem?

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service’s National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) in Shepherdstown, WV, serves as the flagship campus for training and education in conservation.

It also houses a museum that highlights the Service’s legacy and impact. To support this mission, NCTC partnered with EPI-Colorspace to refresh key areas across the campus, including museum exhibits, a Theodore Roosevelt mural, and the Director’s office.

As a trusted partner for more than 12 years, EPI understood the importance of enhancing these spaces while preserving their character and managing costs responsibly. Some elements, like the exhibit panels and mural, could be replaced outright. Others, such as the large photo murals in the Director’s office, presented challenges because they were permanently affixed to the walls during the building’s original construction in 1997.

What Did We Do?

Working closely with the NCTC team, we developed solutions that balanced preservation with visual impact. In the museum, new panels were produced with accurate color reproduction and durable finishes designed for long-term display. The Roosevelt mural was recreated as a vivid focal point honoring one of conservation’s most influential figures. For the Director’s office, we introduced a non-invasive method, overlaying high-resolution mural panels directly on the originals. This approach delivered a refreshed, modern finish without demolition, structural risk, or added cost.

What Was the Result?

This project demonstrates the value of strong client partnership rooted in open communication, creative problem solving, and disciplined execution. By enhancing exhibits and office spaces while preserving existing structures, EPI-Colorspace helped the National Conservation Training Center strengthen its ability to share the story of conservation history with visitors, staff, and future generations.
