Parks Garage: Wayfinding Overhaul & Modernization

The 1.8 million square foot underground facility, serving five buildings across four levels, had accumulated a fragmented collection of signage styles over four decades, leaving drivers disoriented and struggling to navigate. EPI-Colorspace partnered with JBG-Smith’s project lead Catherine to deliver a comprehensive wayfinding overhaul that would match the functional needs and visual aspirations of this fast-evolving commercial district. The project required extensive coordination, with more than 120 overhead directional signs and 100 wall-mounted signs fabricated and installed, custom graphics for every elevator bank, row markers throughout all levels, and the integration of specialty elements including custom neon signage from Australia and high-spec lightboxes from Canada.

Throughout the Spring 2024 to Summer 2025 timeline, EPI demonstrated remarkable agility as project requirements evolved to include electric vehicle signage, new datum lines wrapping elevator cores, and code-driven elements like fire-pull signage. Installation Manager Sean Mayo established a dedicated on-site command center to maintain quality standards and coordination across multiple trades, while the team ensured full transparency with Catherine regarding how scope changes would affect timelines and budgets. This service-driven approach enabled informed decision-making and strategic phasing that minimized disruption while delivering uncompromised results.

The transformation was complete: what was once a confusing maze became a model of modern wayfinding, where drivers now navigate with clarity through thoughtfully placed, visually consistent signage that creates a seamless experience from entry to exit.
